Purpose of the catalogue
The IEREM Public Domain Literature Library provides curated access to public-domain texts, accompanied by editorial notes that aid readers in understanding context, structure, and themes. The catalogue is intended for general readers and students of historical literature.
Scope and selection
The library currently contains 93 works, all sourced from Project Gutenberg. Selection is based on literary, historical, or cultural significance, with a preference for works that benefit from contextual explanation. No work is chosen for commercial reasons.
Source attribution
Every work is clearly attributed to its author(s) and original publisher (Project Gutenberg). The catalogue does not modify the public-domain texts themselves; editorial content is separate and original to this site.
Bibliographic records
Each record includes title, author(s), publisher, keywords, target reader, and a catalogue note. The note is written by Associate Editor Jane Defoe and aims to provide a concise, informative summary without literary evaluation.
Category assignment
Works are grouped into four categories based on shared themes and approaches. Categories are designed as navigation aids, not definitive literary judgments. A single work may fit multiple categories, but is placed in the most representative one.
Editorial reading context
Editorial notes draw on the text itself—its structure, imagery, diction, and narrative voice—to guide a first reading. Notes avoid biographical speculation unless supported by the text or widely accepted historical facts.
Edition facts and text measurements
